123. The inspectorate is funded by the Scottish Government. Our budget for 2025-26 was £463,000.
124. In 2025-26, our expenditure was as follows:

125. Between March and July 2025 there was no Chief Inspector in post which accounts for the overall £16,240 underspend in 2025-26.
126. Under sections 31 and 32 of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, IPS is required to publish certain information, including on expenditure. This information is published at Appendix 1.
Staff
127. As at 31 March 2026, the staff of IPS was 4.57 full-time equivalents and consisted of the Chief Inspector, Assistant Inspector of Prosecution, Legal Inspector, Business Inspector and Personal Assistant.
Freedom of Information requests
128. IPS is subject to the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. We publish information about our work, including our inspection reports, on our website. In 2025-26 we received 13 freedom of information requests, all of which were responded to within the required timescale.
